Using ingredients purchased from Kids Against Hunger in Omaha, Nebraska, Grains for Hope youth leaders invited area residents to join in the packaging of 15,000 meals at the Event Center in Sabetha, Kansas. These meals are being shared in the Sabetha/Nemaha/Brown county area at food pantries, food security efforts, and meal programs as well as The Cats' Cupboard on the Kansas State University campus.
The Grains for Hope Academy occurred June 25-29, 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Sabetha Glacial Hills Resource Center. Five Grains for Hope members and three guests participated in the activities and presentations each day. Eighteen motivational speakers addressed the attendees. Additional opportunities throughout the five days included a guided tour of Wenger Manufacturing followed by lunch provided by Wenger Manufacturing at the Buzz in the Wenger Room, calls or visits to the Sabetha Food Pantry, Hartter Seed and Feed, Kids Against Hunger-- Omaha, Sabetha City Hall and Printing Impressions, the Sabetha Herald, and a virtual visit to an education conference going on in Chicago.
