Saturday May 4, Grains For Hope personnel assembled Mother's Day gift bags at the Glacial Hills Business Resource Center, 913 Dakota, Sabetha, KS. Grains For Hope member Kenzie developed the project in accordance with the Grains For Hope Scholarship 2019 guidelines.
Kenzie contacted the Lighthouse director and made arrangements regarding filling and delivery of the gift bags. Personal items were then purchased locally and delivered to Glacial Hills for gift bag assembly . The following morning, May 4, Grains For Hope members worked together to fill the bags with body wash, lip balm, nail polish and several other useful items. Pretty tissue paper and a hand written note of encouragement completed each gift bag. .
Located in Kansas City, The Lighthouse serves young women and their children by providing support and needed supplies. Thanks to Grains For Hope, special gift bags will be shared with the women at the Lighthouse, just in time for Mother's Day.
The twenty bags will be delivered to The Lighthouse in Kansas City on Thursday, May 9. Grains For Hope is thankful to all who continue to make this a worthy and valuable organization.
Using ingredients purchased from Kids Against Hunger in Omaha, Nebraska, Grains for Hope youth leaders invited area residents to join in the packaging of 15,000 meals at the Event Center in Sabetha, Kansas. These meals are being shared in the Sabetha/Nemaha/Brown county area at food pantries, food security efforts, and meal programs as well as The Cats' Cupboard on the Kansas State University campus.
The Grains for Hope Academy occurred June 25-29, 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Sabetha Glacial Hills Resource Center. Five Grains for Hope members and three guests participated in the activities and presentations each day. Eighteen motivational speakers addressed the attendees. Additional opportunities throughout the five days included a guided tour of Wenger Manufacturing followed by lunch provided by Wenger Manufacturing at the Buzz in the Wenger Room, calls or visits to the Sabetha Food Pantry, Hartter Seed and Feed, Kids Against Hunger-- Omaha, Sabetha City Hall and Printing Impressions, the Sabetha Herald, and a virtual visit to an education conference going on in Chicago.
